An opportunity for college students

The Catawba County Democratic Party (CCDP) is seeking motivated college students from a variety of academic backgrounds to join our team as interns. This internship is a learning opportunity designed to help students develop practical skills in political campaigns, advocacy, communications, data analysis, event planning, and community engagement. Interns will be paired with a supervisor who will provide guidance, mentorship, and assignments tailored to their area of study and professional interests.

Position: The CCDP Jonathan Mott Summer Internship
Location: Hybrid (Some in-person work required in Hickory, NC)
Time Commitment: Flexible, with a minimum of 5-10 hours per week
Compensation: $500 stipend + college credit (if seeking)​​

Learning Pathways


Communications, Marketing, English, and Creative Fields

Assist with learning and implementing social media strategy and content creation (graphics, videos, and posts).

Draft press releases, blog posts, and email newsletters with feedback and revisions from a supervisor.

Develop messaging for outreach under supervision.

Help update websites and contribute to digital storytelling efforts.
Political Science, History, and Public Policy

Conduct research on policy issues and candidate platforms with guidance.

Learn about voter outreach strategies and assist with mobilization efforts.

Participate in grassroots organizing, canvassing, and phone banking with training.

Support advocacy campaigns on key local and state issues.

Data Science, Computer Science, and Analytics

Learn how to analyze voter trends and engagement metrics.

Assist in maintaining and updating voter databases with oversight.

Work on digital tools and website updates with support.

Help develop reports to inform strategy, with supervision.

Business, Management, and Event Planning

Assist with fundraising campaigns and donor outreach under mentorship.

Help plan and execute events, including rallies, town halls, and social gatherings.

Support financial tracking and budgeting efforts with guidance.

Learn about community partnerships and assist with outreach strategies.
Qualifications:

Enrolled in a college or university program (all majors welcome).

Interest in learning about politics, community engagement, or public service.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently while receiving support and feedback.

Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take initiative.

Familiarity with social media, data tools, or digital communication platforms is a plus but not required.
