Hickory Primary Tuesday, Oct. 8

Tuesday, October 8th

Hickory Voters in Wards 1, 2, and 3 will have a primary on October 8th. The top two winners will move on to the November Election. You must reside in the Ward to vote in that Ward's primary election. Our Democratic candidates need your vote if you live in these wards: Dustin Strickland - Ward 1, Charlotte Williams - Ward 2, and Daria Jackson - Ward 3.

Early Voting for November Municipals: Oct. 16 - Nov. 1 Municipal & School Elections: November 5, 2019 A full list of candidates and Races can be found at the CCBoE. We'll include more candidate info on our website.

 

Democratic Women hosting Third Annual Team Adult Spelling Bee Oct. 8

The Democratic Women of Catawba County will host the Third Annual Team Adult Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. 

This fall fundraiser will be held at the NEW Catawba County Democratic Party headquarters located at 216-C Union Square NW, Hickory, NC, in the lower level of the Julia Rush building. Guests can enter from Union Square as well as Trade Alley. 

Teams of four can compete for an entry fee of $100.  Guests can join us to support the teams for a $10 admission fee, which includes refreshments (wine for  21+ with ID, soft drinks, and hors d'oeuvres,). Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams as well as best team name and best team costume.  Join us for this fun-filled event! 


Our new headquarters is located in Unit C (Lower Level) of the Julia Rush building in Union Square, downtown Hickory. Handicap entrance located on Trade Alley.

 

Newton Candidates Forum Oct. 12

The Newton Forum Committee is sponsoring a non-partisan candidates forum for the upcoming city and school board elections. It will be held on Saturday morning, October 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the community meeting room downstairs in the Catawba County Library (Main Branch, Newton.) View Event Page

Candidates will make two-minute opening statements, will provide one-minute answers to questions asked directly from audience members and make one-minute closing statements.

Candidates for mayor include Eddie Haupt, Al Hoover, Jeremy Petty and John Stiver. Candidates for the three at-large seats on City Council include Beverly Danner, incumbent Jody Dixon, Laddie Ford, incumbent Jerry Hodge, Mike Honeycutt, Roy Johnson, Mary Bess Lawing, Yerby Ray, Rick Settlemyre and Addie Shuford.

Jim Stockner is unopposed for re-election to his seat on the Newton-Conover School Board.

This forum is non-partisan and is not designed to promote any particular candidates or agendas. Its purpose is to give individual voters a chance to directly question candidates and become educated and informed voters.

Please come. Early voting begins the following Wednesday on October 16th in the same location where the forum is being held.

  • Dem Women's Christmas Party is Dec. 3rd at HQ

  • Precinct Organization: We need precincts organized and representatives ready for action for 2020, in contacting Dems in your precinct, GOTV efforts, covering polling locations during elections, etc. These efforts will be discussed in future monthly meetings.
